Advani’s veiled attack came after Modi took on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh by giving a point-by-point rebuttal over the latter’s address to the nation from the Red Fort on the occasion of 67th Independence Day.
“On this day making personal attack should be avoided… We should think about the decade ahead,” Advani said.
“I heard the prime minister… I wish everyone Happy Independence Day… India has tremendous potential. We need to think of the country,” he said.
Congress slams Modi
Modi came under direct attack from top Congress leaders and ministers for taking on the prime minister.
Reacting to Modi’s speech, Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh said, “It has never happened in our history that politics is played on the prime minister’s speech on Independence Day.”
Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “How can a chief minister challenge THE prime minister? For us all chief ministers are equal… If I say I am bigger than Obama then people would think I have gone mad.”

“Everybody has right to compare himself with anybody… Such political statements on the occasion of Independence Day are inappropriate,” Khurshid said.
